Configuring Outlook Express Mail application for use with Joomlapolis hosting for receiving and sending email securely Print

Yes, you can read your e-mail from the Outlook Express Mail application, as long as it is compliant with the protocols we are using.

To read your mailboxes, you can use either PoP3 with SSL and password authentication or IMAP with SSL. To send e-mails, your agent has to be configured to use SMTP with SSL and password authentication. As a general rule, we always use secured connections. The parameters to configure your mail agent are described below. We will use John Doe and as fictive user and domain.

  • Open Outlook Express "Mail" application, choose Tools -> Accounts, then top right press the "Add" button followed by "Mail" to add account, then choose:
  • Display name: as you choose
  • Press "Next"
  • Email Address:
  • Press "Next"
  • Incoming mail server as: POP or IMAP depending on your preference where mailbox should remain stored: POP on your PC, IMAP: on the server.
  • Incoming server: mail.yourdomain.tld (e.g.
  • Outgoing Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.tld (e.g.
  • Press "Next"
  • Account name:
  • Password: your password
  • Press "Next"
  • Press "Finish"
  • Press in the middle right "Properties"
  • Press "Advanced"
  • Below "Incoming mail(IMAP):" Tick the checkbox: "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
  • Press "Ok"
  • Press "Close"

If reading email doesn't work, check that in Advanced tab you have port 995 for POP3 or 993 for IMAPS and in both cases "Use SSL" ticked. If it still doesn't work, wait an hour or change your IP address if you can (in case wrong port number usage blocked your IP address and you can't access the whole server anymore, e.g. your web-page).

Changing outgoing server later:

You may at a later stage want to change the outgoing SMTP server for your existing account to use our secure SMTP server. To do this, open Outlook Exoress "Mail" application, choose Tools -> Accounts, and select account in the list, then in the middle right press "Properties" followed by "Servers" tab then configure as follows:

  • Outgoing Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.tld (
  • Enter as User Name: yourname@yourdomain.tld ( and your password
  • IMPORTANT: tick on "Log on using Secure Password Authentication"
  • Press "Ok"

It is important that you activate the SSL (encryption). If you don't do it, you will not be able to read your mails, and our security system will block your IP address for one hour.

Note: a few ISPs do not allow outgoing SMTP port 25. In that case, you can either call them to open you that port or to tell you which of their SMTP servers to use, or you can use our alternate port 10025 with TLS/SSL only in case your ISP blocks port 25.
